Profit Increases Through Equipment Upgrades
BACKGROUND
An international manufacturer of quality custom brushes uses an older machine designed in-house by an employee no longer with the company. There was no documentation for either the hardware or software.
PROBLEM
As drives began to fault out and the machine would crash unexpectedly, the decision was made to upgrade. The mechanical systems were still sound, but the equipment as a whole performed slowly and not up to current industry levels. When it became necessary to update one of their main profit producing machines, IAS was called for a solution.
SOLUTION
IAS designed a new electrical system and interface for the existing mechanical system. By taking advantage of modern equipment and improving the user interface, the new IAS machine is able to reach speeds more than three times that of the old machine -- thereby greatly improving profits of this product line. The newly acquired speeds compare favorably with far more expensive top of the line commercial offerings. IAS was able to retrofit the mechanical system and achieve these speeds without suffering any unplanned machine downtime.
